Amelia Island packing list for families

Amelia Island feels more Lowcountry than South Florida, with cooler seasons, marsh sunsets, and a charming old port town. That means packing a little differently than you would for Miami or the Keys.

Kristina's notes on Amelia Island, Florida

  1. Amelia sits in north Florida, so winter is cool and the ocean stays brisk into April. For a spring trip I pack hoodies and light pants alongside the swimsuits.
  2. Fernandina Beach is my favorite rainy-afternoon plan. The historic downtown is walkable, with ice cream, shops, and shrimp boats at the marina.
  3. A boat trip to Cumberland Island to look for its wild horses is a highlight for kids. There is very little shade or food once you land, so pack water, snacks, and bug spray.
