Lake Tahoe ski packing list for families
Lake Tahoe is a ski trip and a lake trip in one, depending on when you go. Winter brings big Sierra snow, summer brings clear, cold water, and both come with strong mountain sun.

Kristina's notes on Lake Tahoe
- Sierra storms can drop a lot of snow at once, and chain controls on the mountain highways are common. I plan extra drive time, pack snacks and water in the car, and check road conditions before leaving.
- The lake sits around 6,200 feet, and the sun is strong in every season. Kids need sunscreen on their faces for ski days just as much as for summer beach days.
- Even in July, Lake Tahoe's water stays cold and the beaches are rocky in spots. I pack water shoes and a warm sweatshirt for evenings, which cool off quickly after the sun goes down.
