Normandy and Mont-Saint-Michel packing list for families

Normandy is history, windy beaches, and a medieval abbey that rises out of the tides. Packing for changeable weather and a few respectful outfits makes the trip easy and meaningful with kids.

Kristina's notes on Normandy & Mont-Saint-Michel

  1. The D-Day beaches and the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer are moving for older kids. A good guide makes the history real, and I pack a neat outfit for the cemetery visit out of respect.
  2. Mont-Saint-Michel is a steep climb on narrow streets and stairs to the abbey, so a carrier works better than a stroller. Only walk out on the bay with a certified guide, because the tides and quicksand are dangerous.
  3. Normandy weather changes quickly, even in summer. I pack rain jackets and a warm layer for everyone, because the beaches are windy and cool when the sun disappears.
