Rhine river cruise packing list for families

A Rhine cruise means castles from the sun deck in the morning and cobblestone walking tours by afternoon. Smart layers and comfortable shoes do most of the work on this trip.

Kristina's notes on Rhine River Cruise

  1. The Middle Rhine stretch between Rüdesheim and Koblenz is lined with castles, and it is my favorite part to watch from the top deck. Bring binoculars and a warm layer, because it can be breezy even on a sunny day.
  2. River levels can run low in late summer or high after heavy rain. Lines sometimes swap ships or add a bus transfer, so build flexibility into your expectations, especially with kids.
  3. Port stops are walking-heavy, with cobblestones and stairs. A baby carrier or a very small stroller is far easier than a full-size one.
