Swiss Alps summer packing list for families

A Swiss summer day can start with a swim in a warm lake and end in the snow at 11,000 feet. This list helps families pack for both, without hauling a winter wardrobe through every train station.

Kristina's notes on Swiss Alps in Summer

  1. Pack for two climates: summer clothes for lake days in Lucerne and Interlaken, and real warm layers for summits like Jungfraujoch, where there's snow all year.
  2. Look into the Swiss Family Card before you go. It typically lets kids 6 to 15 ride free on trains and many boats and lifts when traveling with a parent who has a valid ticket.
  3. Afternoon storms can build quickly in the mountains, so I schedule high-altitude excursions early in the day and save afternoons for the lake or a playground with a view.
