Acadia and Bar Harbor packing list for families
Acadia mixes ocean, granite, and forest, with weather that can go from sunny to foggy in an hour. Packing for the rocks, the wind, and the tides keeps a family hiking and exploring all day.
Kristina's notes on Maine: Acadia & Bar Harbor
- The carriage roads are my favorite way to see Acadia with kids. They're car-free gravel paths, so renting bikes in Bar Harbor makes for an easy, beautiful family day.
- Driving up Cadillac Mountain requires a vehicle reservation for much of the year, and sunrise slots go quickly. Check the park's site before you go.
- Bar Island is only reachable on foot at low tide, and the sandbar floods fast when the tide turns. Check tide times, and pack water shoes for tide pooling on the rocks.
