José Ignacio packing list for families

José Ignacio is a relaxed beach village where days are sunny and windy and nights turn cool. Packing here is about easy beach style plus a few warm layers most people forget.

Kristina's notes on Uruguay: José Ignacio

  1. José Ignacio has two beaches, and with kids I head to Playa Mansa, the calmer side. Playa Brava faces the open Atlantic and is better for watching surfers than for little swimmers.
  2. The Atlantic here is cool and the wind picks up most afternoons. Pack a sweater for evenings and a shorty wetsuit if your kids live in the water.
  3. The season is short and lively, peaking from Christmas through January. Outside summer, many restaurants and shops close, so I plan family trips for December through March.
